Never Touch Bottom

Getting Started

Any adolescent or adult with a physician's confidence and who is comfortable standing in waist deep water can enjoy this personalized fitness activity. It’s about an amount of time set as a personal goal, based on a clock that can be seen... in water where you know you are safe.

Step into the water, look at the clock, and decide the number of minutes you challenge yourself to keep your head up, to not stop moving, and to never touch the sides or bottom of the low depth pool.

  • There’s no instructor. No one prescribes how to do it. It’s personalized.
  • You choose the activity, the pace and the technique.
  • You decide how long to attempt it and how it gets done.
  • Take some calculated risks, and move about.

Avoiding the bottom requires dedication. Treading in shallow water is more challenging than in deep water. Sometimes you’ll swim a little slower, in circles or even backwards. Don’t get discouraged. The reward for continuing attention and effort will be a satisfying sense of accomplishment and a healthier you.

If conquering only a minute or two at first effort, what will you choose to do next?
